5 of the Most Under-Appreciated Photography Films Today – Guest Post By Paul McKay of Analogue Wonderland
We are living in a wonderful time for film photography. 2017 saw the launch of more new film products than any year since the 1990s, and 2018 has already broken that record with 3 months still to go. We have been treated to old favourites coming back (Tmax 3200, Ektachrome) as well as a continued flow of new brands and extensions (Bretz Skyline, Street Candy, JCH Streetpan 120, Yodica). In fact we currently have over 180 different films listed on our site – and by the end of the year we expect that number to exceed 200!
But amongst all the classics: the HP5s, Velvias, Portra, the wildly popular Instax range, and more – there are some hidden gems that we feel do not get the attention and the love that they deserve. Kosmic Clean up – A one roll review of Kosmo Foto Mono
You might remember those nice folk at Analogue Wonderland sent me a box of 3 very different rolls of films recently. Amongst these is Kosmo Foto’s B&W film launched last year a 100 ISO Panchromatic number. So I loaded up into my trusty Nikon F55 and headed to the Solway coast with the weans to do our bit for the environment and to test out this film. There are no deals on eBay: Finding film cameras at the right price
Film cameras aren’t as cheap as they used to be. When I began shooting film around 14 years ago, we all knew digital technology would only get better and prosumers and professionals were quickly selling off their equipment wholesale to begin the rat race that was the DSLR wars. Continue reading There are no deals on eBay: Finding film cameras at the right price
Le Clic est Freak ! – The Le Clic 170/C170 Review
At first glance things don’t look promising. We’ve a basic all plastic camera with its basic design and no features. It also come with that badge of dubious quality ‘Japan Lens’. So if you’re a fan of plastic cameras is it worth your time to click this le Clic ? Continue reading Le Clic est Freak ! – The Le Clic 170/C170 Review
Credit Crunch ? – Barclaycard Camera Review
I’ve a bit of a soft spot for the old Barclaycard Visa Camera despite it being pretty basic and prone to breaking. However I’ve been long aware there is another Barclaycard film camera. So when I came across a couple of these for peanuts I couldn’t resist. Continue reading Credit Crunch ? – Barclaycard Camera Review
Mini Brexit ? – Konica EU-mini Review
I’ll honestly avoid being too political about Brexit here. But as I type this the UK is still in the process of negotiating its departure from the European Union . Whether this leads to a prosperous future, disaster or somewhere in between remains to be seen. But is this oddly apt camera from Konica, a Negotiation Disaster or Brexit busting Deal. Perestroika shooting – LOMO Smena 35 Review
Remember the Smena 8M ? A Soviet Camera that combined a killer lens, 50’s shutter and cheap plastic body ? Well the folks at LOMO didn’t stop with the Smena 8M, refining it further finally producing a last gasp bad boy – the Smena 35 (Смена-35). But whilst there is a lot of improvements there are issues to be aware of.

The Olympus Lomo ? – The Olympus Trip 500 Review
The Olympus Trip 35 is one of the most revered compacts ever made. Sadly Olympus had a bad habit of producing some decidedly basic & sometime awful cameras trading on its name. However not all are that bad But has this plastic trip the potential to be Olympus’s Lomo ? Continue reading The Olympus Lomo ? – The Olympus Trip 500 Review
