Not exactly the pinnacle of Ricoh’s output, this little cheap ‘n’ cheerful fixed focus compact actually was surprisingly good despite my review one being half knackered. But it actually still managed a better run than the Olympus AM-100. Continue reading Fixed focus runner – Ricoh YF-20 Review

Ferrania on Ferrania – Ciao Italia !
2017 has become one hell of a good year for film. With various artisan launches and the imminent return of Ektachrome., much of the buzz has focused on not just one but 2 films hailing from Ferrania’s plant. What better way to test them out than shooting on a Vintage Ferrania Camera !! Continue reading Ferrania on Ferrania – Ciao Italia !
Colour Testing Ferrania P30 Alpha
FILM Ferrania relaunch finally bore fruits earlier this year with arrival of P30, a panchromatic B&W film based on the legendary P30 movie film. I was lucky enough to be able as a backer to buy and try out some of the alpha release version. But how well balanced is it ? Continue reading Colour Testing Ferrania P30 Alpha

Want a step up from a zoom compact but don’t want to commit to a SLR ? Well the Olympus IS-1000 might be for you. Costing hundreds at launch this 1990 bridge camera now can be bought for a tenner or less. But how does it compare to other compacts and modern cameras ?
Trouble int’ Yorkshire – The problem with Lomography Lady Grey/Fomapan 400
I type this while on my Summer Trip to the Yorkshire Riviera namely Whitby. But wasn’t the Dracula links or the stunning scenery that gave me a shock. It was the fact that I’d loaded up with Lomography Lady Grey only to find out it isn’t DX coded !!! Continue reading Trouble int’ Yorkshire – The problem with Lomography Lady Grey/Fomapan 400
The confessional – PST do you or don’t you?
I have guilty secret but I don’t think I’m alone. I’ve just started running a very basic cheap and cheerful enhance filter over some of my shots. But is post scan tweaking (PST) a good or bad thing ? And how much do you do ?

Three Takes on the Halina Panorama – (2) Lucy’s Trip
The premise was simple – send the same camera to 3 different shooters. Not being quite able to afford 3 Leica III, 3 bargain bucket cameras headed off. My Halina Panorama challenge got off to an interesting start for our first of 3 shooters Hamish Gill, a mix of the good but mainly the bad. I wasn’t too surprised he didn’t end up being a fan. But how would the Pano fare in the hands of someone more use to the light plastastic? Continue reading Three Takes on the Halina Panorama – (2) Lucy’s Trip
One Hand in My Pocket – Minolta Pocket Autopak 430Ex review
In the last year or 2, I’ve shot a lot of 110 cameras. They have tended though to fall into 3 camps – modern toy shooters with plastic lenses for the lomo crowd, simple 70’s cameras with that classic minox 110 shape or the bonkers high end SLR & rangefinders. The 430E & 430Ex sit in that middle group but with some high end features that raise them above the average. Continue reading One Hand in My Pocket – Minolta Pocket Autopak 430Ex review
The lady goes East – The curious tale of Lomography Lady Grey
It was during my rush to get my hands on some F2/400 that I bought some rolls of lady Grey and on a recent dive into Boots I picked some more up on a buy one get one half price deal. I’d heard the stuff was marked as and made in USA and was basically Kodak Tmax. But then I stumbled across this Flickr discussion post which rightly pointed out they ain’t made in the states no more but is marked as made in the Czech Republic.
