The Future’s Sooo Bright BUT You Gotta Wear Shades – The NONS SL42 Update

Earlier this year Nons launched one of the more interesting analogue camera Kickstarters that I’ve seen. The SL42 is an interchangeable lens mount SLR that uses Instax instant film. The company have updated backers with some mixed news this week. Which means we’re gonna see this quite soon, with new good features but one major problem.

The Ricoh that’s a Nikon made by Mamiya – Welcome to the Ricoh Singlex

Ricoh developed a bit of a reputation for good SLR bodies and lenses using the M42 & Pentax K Mount. The company still makes K mount dSLR under the Pentax brand. But weirdly their first SLR the Singlex wasn’t developed by them. In fact it is basically a rebranded Nikon.  But a  Nikon that wasn’t even made by Nikon.

Curious ? Read on.

It’s not a real Nikon but … – The Nikon FE10 Overview

Launched in 1996 few cameras get the goat of some ‘serious’ Nikon users as this and its sibling the FM10. The major sin is they aren’t made by Nikon.  Even wikipedia  describes both as “not a true member of the Nikon compact F-series SLRs,”.  But does that make them bad cameras ?

Of course things are not helped by that lens…

Just pointless – The Nikon F-601m (N6000) Review

Nikon are one of the Key players in SLR design and manufacture. And I’d argue all the models they’ve produced using their F mount are useable cameras. But there are better cameras amongst the pack. The F-601M although arguably the most technologically advanced manual focus SLR Nikon ever made is not one of those.

It is perhaps the most pointless Nikon ever made

The Poor Man’s F3 ? – The Overlooked Nikon F-301 or N2000

I’ve come across a few more basic cameras that pick up a mythic tag comparing them to a more esteemed classic. But the Nikon F-301 (or in my case weirdly the Americanised N2000) is perhaps the most bizarre of the bunch. That’s because some folks do compare it to the legend that is the F3

Whilst it’s no F3, if you’re on a budget this might be good compromise.

It’s All About The Lens Baby – Kiev 19 Review Part 1

Usually when I review an SLR I tend to caveat my reviews by pointing out optical performance depends on the Lens glass and don’t focus on that side of things. But with this Ukrainian beast it really is all about the glass in the form of the Helios-81N ( гелиос-81н )50mm 1:2 lens.

But let’s not ignore the camera and we’ll begin there.

The Analogue Arms – Storm Brewing

Been a busy few weeks both photography and in life. I’ve realised the regular update is becoming a a bit irregular and given it’s almost 2 months since I last did one so say farewell to the analogue week and step inside from the rain to the warmth of the Analogue Arms and grab a pint or coffee from the bar as I give you a run down of what I’ve been up to and some other news that’s worth follow

The Analogue Week 3 – Good Evening Mr Bond. we’ve been expecting you

Since my last posting irregular update a lot has been happening both in the world of film and in the wider world. So grab your Martini (shaken not stirred) and pull up a seat.

The Analogue Week 3 – Wet Trails, Dirty Cameras and Lomo Woes

My apologies as this is way late but it has been a busy month as you’ll see. This post we’ll have a couple of trips away to discuss some new & old cameras and why I’m probably never buying Lomography 120 film ever again. But worse still it looks like the Lomography Film is now dead on the UK High Street too.

Oh and some other worthy reviews to check out and a DIY project for the darkroom bunnies.
