Confessions of an accidental Flickr Explore Whore
I’d just finished up doing the review of the interesting but deeply flawed Olympus Trip AF51 when something odd happened. One of the test shots I’d uploaded to Flickr suddenly got a surge in views and likes. I’d managed once again to become an accidental explore whore. Continue reading Confessions of an accidental Flickr Explore Whore
20th Century Photography in 10 (and a bit) People’s Cameras
,Although practical photography dates back almost 2 centuries for much of its early days it was in the hand of the inventors, scientists and entrepreneurs. Then as now, we loved having our photo taken. But in the 19th century that meant a trip to a expensive professional photographer.
But that was radically to change at the start of the 20th Century which would move the camera rapidly from the hands of the “professional” into ours. Continue reading 20th Century Photography in 10 (and a bit) People’s Cameras
The annual Canny Camera review of the Year 2017
As I sit munching the last of the mince pies and watching Bond on the telly (Spectre – not bad if a tad formulistic), it is the traditional time to start to reflect on 2017. A year that has seen both and highs and lows for film shooters.
So where to begin ? Continue reading The annual Canny Camera review of the Year 2017
Battery Replacement in the Ricoh L-20/YF-20 Super Date
yup I got another of Ricoh’s YF-20 series. A full review will be coming for this later model that adds a distance focus but this one came with the Data back. Although you can see the standard manual online, I couldn’t find any info about the data back. Having almost wrecked the camera in trying to replace the battery, I click it was quite easy and hopefully this will be of help

Konica Pop Review – Guest Review by Al Mullen
The Konica Pop was a 35mm camera made from 1982 to 1984 in this form, with changes coming in 1985 and 1988 to optics and flash. It was well selling, it’s compactness and color variations helped it stand out in that era when most manufacturers had smaller automatic 35mm’s in their lineup. The Post Brexit annual Film world review – 2016
Since I published the 2015 but a lot has happened in the world in general and in film. So join me as you polish of the last mince pie and shove the last of the weans’ packaging into the recycling bin Continue reading The Post Brexit annual Film world review – 2016
K-mount Lens carnage with the infamous Ricoh Pin
I almost goofed badly when selling a lens. I’d picked up a Ricoh KR-5 Super with a few lens for relative peanuts but decided to sell on a Tokina 25-70mm lens as I already had a Pentax SMC KA zoom of similar length. It was only at the last minute I twigged the lens had the infamous Ricoh Pin issue. If you shoot with Pentax K mount cameras then it’s one you’ll want to know about. Continue reading K-mount Lens carnage with the infamous Ricoh Pin
Flash in the Pan – Agfa Silette F Review
From the more basic end of Agfa’s long running Silette series of 35mm compacts, the F is notable for its now redundant flash bulb system. But step beyond that to see if this is any good or just a flash in the pan ? Continue reading Flash in the Pan – Agfa Silette F Review
