Retro Lo-Fi Fun – Chuzhao Retro Digital

2024 saw a lot of jostling to push Lo-Fi digitals from the very good new Camp Snap to the frankly awful Retro Snap. You’d think i’d have had enough and should be saving my pennies for that Black Z fc I’m craving . But no, here’s the Chuzhao Retro and for ~50 quid you get a mini vintage style TLR- like cracker with some issues.

2024 – The year in photography

So the Last pigs in blanket has been scoffed and my port bottle has been running dry. So it feels like time to look back over 2024 from a film and lo fi digital point of view. We’ve court battles, new gear a plenty and Gen Z nicking all the budget digicams. As well as an unhealthy obsession with 2:1 cameras. Oh and we’ve my annual awards and predictions.

Undercooked Turkey – Retro Snap Review

The Lo-fi camera market has had a turbulent 12 months. But new camera touted a few months back to be a new entry player with retro styling and switchable filters. The Retro Snap looked like a tweaked Camp Snap – the current budget favourite of the field and there an element of shameless hommage (or is that… cough… cough copying ?). And Mines turned up just before Christmas. But just like Dodgy Uncle Jeff I kinda wish it hadn’t. At least Uncle Jeff brings what he says and he’ll answer my messages though. Same can’t be said of Retro Snap Cameras Ltd.

Wizard from Oz ? Unboxing the FilmNeverDie Nana Camera

So the wait is over. Arriving from Melbourne this week was my Nana Camera from FilmNeverDie (FND). It’s a camera that perhaps has had one of the more controversial pre-release histories in recent years. But what is the camera actually like. Here’s my unboxing and comparison to something else…

South By Southwest – Lo-Fi Digital Shoot out in Bristol

Amid on the ructions around Paper shoot, let’s take one and shoot it alongside current rivals the Camp Snap and the Flashback ONE35 on a trip South by South West. Sadly my Budget couldn’t afford SXSW in Texas but I headed to equally more legendary but Autumnal  Bristol followed by Manchester in the UK for a Lo-Fi Digital Shoot out.

Paper shoot out – Big trouble in Paper Shoot land

Most of you will have heard of the Paper Shoot. Arguable the most successful Lo-Fi Digital brand of the last decade. But there been a big falling out in the land of the eco-friendly, swappable covers. Which has been a tad messy and led to a potential new camera. Time to spill the beans

The Nana Drama – Nana Camera finally ships amid on going controversy

Film Never Die’s Nana camera had a caught the zeitgeist of new film cameras in 2023. The company is a small Australian based film & camera supplier’s latest camera pre-launched quiet in late 2023 but when a follow up Kickstarter ran earlier this year, it came in for some grief on social media before anyone outside the company had held one. And then there’s the question of the dubious funding of that Kickstarter. So what’s the story Morning Glory.

Budgetary Halves – the BHF-01 Half frame review

New Half frame cameras are the range in film photography at the mo. But what if you’re budget can’t stretch to a Pentax 17 nor even to a humble Kodak Ektar H35 ? Well you could try the half frame versions of the dubblefilm show. Or you could try this ? Or it’s clones like the Flic film Double shot. But it might look a little familar….

The ProjeCamera Kickstarter – Just say no

Another day another allegedly high spec camera on Kickstarter. But no! This one as the blurb says is a “Never Seen Before A Camera that doubles As A Projector”. Except that’s not true and your Spidey senses should be tingling for a camera offering 48M photos and 2K video for under $140 for those not so lucky early backers.
